Strike while the iron is hot
/So I’m pretty sure I missed a week of posting but I’m not going to beat myself up over it. I didn’t necessarily do a lot of cool stuff to warrant your jealousy over anything, like being able to weigh baby Adelie penguins for research.
FOR RESEARCH!
I’ve gained enough of a rhythm here to finally break free from it a little bit. Most days I usually go to work, come home, shower, read, eat, read, sleep, repeat.
Socially I’m just as reserved as ever but lately have had the bandwidth to get weird and more outgoing. A lot of that has to do with being able to create. I’ve discovered the craft room and have been finding inspiration from random scraps here and there. Currently making a jacket out of a destroyed tent. Yellow wasn’t ever my color but apparently I can’t get enough of it down here.
I have also been scrapping away bags from beans, rice, and whatever else I can snag to use as canvas. It’s been really fun having the capacity to play. My goal is to also create enough to sell at the next Craft Fair, which I am told will be the Vessel one where the ships and their crew come in. Hopefully make a good penny from it.
On another art side note, there is the McMurdo Alternative Art Gallery (MAAG) which is open to any avant garde art experience that the fine folks on Antarctica can fathom. In past years it’s been just about anything from a trash fashion show to wild hairstyling on stage. The only premise is that it can’t be art for sale. It gives people a chance to really stretch themselves for the fun of it.
The vinyl room has also been pretty spectacular. I recently got trained and approved for using it. I’ll be going in there on my days off to relax, draw, and find fresh music.
