Phase Change

We always wish for more time.

In my hustle to never have regrets on my deathbed and to live life to the fullest, I seem to have forgotten the now.

As most of you know I am currently bound for Antarctica. It has been a summer long hustle of getting blood drawn, scheduling medical tests, dental exams, finger prints, and all the clearance papers needed after discovering I had latent TB (breathes) in order to make it to the ice. There was also a back to back retreat in Italy which knocked the pasta laden spirit out of me by the time I returned mid October. Which was just enough time to receive notice that I was shipping out on the 31st. Which, on a side note, is a lot of fun to fly out on Halloween- Spock checked me into my gate in Chicago, Minions are everywhere, and Ted Lasso greeted me in Houston.

All this to say, there was no time to slow down…but I wish there was. I have really incredible people in my life and made a point to see most of them before leaving. After having a couple weeks omittance of pasta, Kate and Jason of The Everyday Chef & Wife were kind enough to offer the Partage space for an impromptu going away pasta party with my close work-friends.

For the past 7 months I’ve been living with my parents again; for a quietly independent 40 year old who sees the world in all its diverse colors… existing there was not the easiest thing to accomplish. But the 3 of us, with comfort, had a nice dinner out to catch up on the empty spaces in between.

My last crew of incredible people, Anna, Elise, and Diane enjoyed another fine dinner out. All while running into other people we knew at Gin Gin’s. Serendipity.

All this to say:
Slow down a little in life. While I did have a REALLY busy summer, I also spent it knowing it could be my last. I slept on the beach, I enjoyed a thunderstorm, played the tabletop games, stopped in to my favorite places, ate the Kim-bap, went on a road trip, and just tried to absorb as much as I could of Michigan. I’m hoping a season on ice in the middle of nowhere slows me down a little.

Lastly, to the ones I missed, you will be the first I see when I get back in spring.
